THE CORE 3

  • BALLET

It connects us to our craft and dancers throughout history. Because ballet has been evolving for hundreds of years, it is the most comprehensive method of developing human potential through movement. Dancers achieve great things in ballet class and are then free to translate those achievements to any genre they choose. A house without a solid foundation will surely collapse. A dancer with a solid foundation in ballet will soar to new heights in whatever genre she decides to pursue.

  • Modern

The Martha Graham Technique (which our classes are based in) is based on the core power of Graham’s signature contraction and release. The Technique promotes strength, stamina, and self-expression and serves as a foundation for excellence in many styles of dance. Graham technique is based on the opposition between contraction and release, a concept based on the breathing cycle which has become a "trademark" of modern dance forms. Its other dominant principle is the "spiraling" of the torso around the axis of the spine. Graham technique is known for its unique dramatic and expressive qualities and distinctive floorwork.

  • Contemporary

A form of expressive dance that combines components of different dance styles including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Dancers aim to correlate the mind and the body within fluid dance moves. Today’s contemporary dance is an eclectic mix of forms, with choreographers drawing from ballet, modern, and “post-modern” (structureless) forms of dance. The contemporary dance founded in Europe and the United States after World War II, appearing on the heels of modern dance. However, for some, it grew from the seeds of postmodernism. Dance is the research of the total movement potential of the body.
