Malone Dance Theater (MDT) is Iowa Dance Collective’s pre-professional performance company, designed for dedicated dancers who demonstrate exceptional commitment, artistry, and work ethic. Through weekly rehearsals, repertory development, and performance opportunities, MDT members train as artists, collaborators, and leaders—gaining experience that prepares them for collegiate and professional work.

  • Eligibility & Structure

    MDT is open to students in the Junior and Senior Divisions and is by invitation only. Dancers are selected based on:

    Technical skill

    Artistic maturity

    Reliability, focus, and class participation

    Readiness for additional rehearsal hours and performance responsibility

    MDT dancers train and perform alongside peers with shared dedication and are held to a high standard of excellence and professionalism.

  • What MDT Members Experience

    Weekly rehearsals focusing on original choreography and repertory

    Contemporary and modern technique rooted in Graham, Horton, and release-based movement

    Creative process work, including improvisation, partnering, and composition

    Performance opportunities throughout the season, including community events and mainstage concerts

    Guest artist residencies, collaborations, and potential travel/performance intensives

    Dancers are expected to attend all rehearsals, participate fully in company classes, and serve as role models within the IDC community.
